Originally this car was fitted with a 3k engine which is a 1.2l pushrod engine. It is not the most powerful engine in the world so an engine conversion was in order. I have always wanted to fit a twin cam engine to one of these Corolla's so I decided on using a 4AGE engine from an AE92 Corolla. It is the 100kw version of the 4AGE and should provide a big improvement over the old 3k.

The AE92 Corolla is front wheel drive so the engine needs to be modified to suit the rear wheel drive KE30. To do this I am using parts from a 4AC from an AE86 Corolla Sprinter.
The 4ac engine.
The cover plate from between the back of the block and the flywheel has to be swapped for the 4ac plate. You can see the difference between the two in the following pictures.
This is with the 4age cover plate fitted.

The 4age cover plate could be used but it will allow dirt, stones, etc to get into the clutch.
The 4age flywheel and clutch is used.
The fwd 4age doesn't have a spigot bearing so one must be fitted to use in rwd.
The lower gearbox supports also have to be used from the 4ac.
These bolt straight on to existing holes in the 4age block.
The engine and gearbox is bolted together and ready to try out their new home.
The engine and gearbox is then lowered into place for a trial fitting. Next step is to make some engine mounts.
The gearbox mounts up by bolting the sprinter gearbox mount to the corolla gearbox cross member.
The crossmember then bolts to the car using the rear bolt holes.
The hole in the floor for the shifter needs to be extended
